Have you ever felt pressured to change who you are? Maybe because you're loud? Or because you're curious, and they told you to stop asking so many questions? If so, it's time I told you something…
Every one of us was born with unique traits—characteristics shaped by both our genes and environment. These traits influence how we behave—whether we’re loud, curious, reserved, or anything in between. Now, walk with me…
You know that God doesn’t make mistakes, right? Psalm 139:14 tells us that we are wonderfully and fearfully made. That means God crafted you with intention—your personality, your quirks, and even the things others might not understand are part of His design. He shaped you this way because He knew these very traits would contribute to your success and align with His purpose for your life.
So, it’s high time you stopped listening to people who try to dim your light or make you feel like you need to shrink yourself to fit their expectations.
It’s okay to be extroverted. It’s okay to be fierce and assertive. These attributes, in their own way, will help you fulfill your purpose.
Now, I’m not saying you shouldn’t refine certain behaviours (behaviour and character are different—Google it 🌚), but there are some things about yourself that you simply cannot and should not change. They are part of God’s intentional design for your life.
So, the next time someone tells you to change—to be more like your sister, your friend, or anyone else—remind them that you were designed this way on purpose. If God wanted you to have the charisma of an orator, He would have included it in your original package.
1 Samuel 17:38-39 NLT
[38] Then Saul gave David his own armor—a bronze helmet and a coat of mail.
[39] David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before. “I can’t go in these,” he protested to Saul. “I’m not used to them.” So David took them off again.
Take David, for example. He wasn’t used to Saul’s armor, and he couldn’t pretend to wear it just because that’s what everyone else did. He knew what worked for him—and sure enough, he won the victory.
Stay true to yourself. Don’t change just to please others. Be authentic. Be you. Be real.
Your innate attributes are what make you unique from the next person. Do not change for anyone.
