I recently heard a different perspective about Mary, the mother of Jesus. Everyone celebrates her because she was chosen by God to give birth to the Savior. As the scriptures say, "Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women." It’s an incredible honor to bear the Savior of the world—surely, she should have been happy.
But have you ever considered that Mary conceived by the Holy Spirit before she was married to Joseph? Even when she told him, he found it hard to believe and wanted to put her away secretly.
Now, imagine what her family must have thought. They likely saw her as a promiscuous woman who couldn’t wait for marriage. Some might have even viewed Joseph the same way, assuming he had been impatient and impregnated her before their wedding.
Despite what society, culture, or even her own family may have thought, Mary still believed the word the angel spoke to her. For her shame, she received honor.
There are countless women like her in scripture, but today, I choose Mary as a symbol for all women.
Dear woman, you are intentionally crafted into God's design. Your strength, resilience, and ability to build are reflections of His nature in you. Do not be belittled by the culture of this world. Do not bow to its systems, for in Him, He created them—both male and female.
Happy International Women's Day to you💙.
